Hi Melly

Sorry to hear your hands are so painful. I've nothing to add to the suggestions here, but I would say that you should never mind about posting when the pain's getting on top of you. We all get low at times and that's what we're here for, as support for one another.

Hello Melly and everyone,

Julie's "pen again" suggestion looks great and very economical ThumpUp
I noticed the link said not available in black (which we have to use at work) so did a quick search "pen again" and its available through several stockists in the UK, some with black refills.
Im going to order some via work ~ they look really good if you have any kind of grip problems. Thanks Julie! xx

& "Ditto!" what Anthea says too xxxxx

Poor Melly, it's really horrible not to be able to use your hands. When mine were very bad I couldn't drive or write, let alone do household tasks. I have a small heated pad that I put over my hands, it really seems to be a comfort. The other thing was to put warm water in the sink and dip my hands in. I know people use the cold, but I can't get along with that.

You can get the chubby pens from Arthritis Care. I have three, they're great.

Hi melly,

Sorry to hear you are having such a bad time.
I also suffer with my hands and understand your discomfort. I went to see my ot and she gave we some wrist splints they have been a god send. I am a teacher and have to do lots of obervations so writing is essential. I found with the support i could manage a few sentances at the begining and now most days i dont need the splint any more. Hope this is of some help.

Katie xx

Hi Melly,

Yes your right the ot said to wear it to rest but me and rest dont mix. When i first wore it i dont know how i lived without it. I try not to use it so much now as the pain has eased alot and i try to exercise my hands while watching the tv so am getting more strength. Its easy for a ot to tell you not to rely on it but if your like me you dont always have a choice.
Im a teacher and need to write as have to observe the children all day. Work did buy me a dictaphone but could never hear anything over the noise level. We have 24 children in the class.
Just do what feels right for you and i do hope you improve soon xx
